No-Flying European Taster Cruises from Southampton
2 Nights
Royal Caribbean Liberty of the Seas
Get your holiday off to an immediate start
cruising from Southampton without the need for lengthy airport queues or flight
restrictions. Take this opportunity to try out a cruise without committing too
much precious holiday time and money. These 2 to 7 night cruises are perfect to
give the novice cruiser a taste of holidaying afloat; or for the experienced cruiser
as a bonus treat during the year for a cheeky break.
Head across the North Sea for 5 nights
visiting two amazing cities- Bruges from Zeebrugge and Hamburg. In
Hamburg the shopping is second to none with the outdoor shopping plaza of The
Spitalerstrasse leading you past big department stores to the ornate golden
tower of the magnificent Town Hall (Rathaus) and to the Europa Passage indoor
shopping mall. Perhaps visit the futuristic looking Heinrich Hertz Term - the
tallest tower and the most iconic structure in Hamburg standing at 204 high
with a restaurant and viewing platform. The vast Haupt Bahnhof (Main train
station) is a sight to see. For the young and young at heart - Miniature
Wunderland houses the largest model railway in the world at 1300 sqm; which
includes an airport with aircraft taking off and landing and a port with cargo
ships navigating islands. There are also
theatres, opera houses, boating on the Alster and at certain times of the year
tall ships frequent the harbour. Visit the Fish Market, the Hamburg Dungeon and
a whole host of museums with Hamburg being particularly well known for its
maritime history and the supremely fascinating U-Boat Museum.
Or grab a summer week of fun and sun and head
to the Iberian Peninsula. Visit the Atlantic coastlines of Spain and
Portugal including trendy Lisbon - the capital of the country
situated on the North bank of the River Tagus as it flows under the imposing
Vasco Da Gama suspension bridge (the longest in Europe). Within walking distance
of the cruise terminal is the area known as is Belem - with the
largest number of heritage sites connected with Portuguese maritime history
such as the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos from 1501, the Maritime Museum and the
Museum of Archaeology. The Torre de Belem is another marvellous monument and
classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
La Coruna is the capital of
Galicia in Spain with lots of scenic and historic interest points. Visit the
Tower or Hercules - the world's oldest functioning lighthouse - built by the
Romans. Admire the coastal views from Monte San Pedro and have fun in the maze
or visit Cabo Finistere (the end of the earth) and the western most point in
Europe. Plaza de Maria Pita marks the historic centre of La Coruna featuring
interesting architecture just a short walk from the cruise terminal
Perhaps head to Norway where the Norwegian Fjords
make a wonderful refreshing break and is one of the most spectacular regions of
the world with a unique mix of culture and jaw dropping scenery of sheer
magnitude. Many would argue that the only way to truly appreciate the dramatic
scenery of the Norwegian Fjords is to sail through them. Norwegian Fjord
cruises allow you to truly appreciate the scale of ice carved inlets with their
spectacular waterfalls. Olden is a peaceful village situated at the end of
one of Nordfjord’s arms. Here a lake in the valley has been turned a rich deep
green created by the minerals pouring down from the Briksdal Glacier where
giant waterfalls make the views spectacular.
Royal Caribbean Liberty of the Seas launched in May 2007 and is the final ship in the trio Freedom class
of ship. At just under 160,000 this ship is among the larger cruise ships afloat
carrying 3,634 passengers (double occupancy) over 15 passenger decks. She
underwent a major revitalization programme in 2017. This ship is a lovely size
so as not to feel overwhelmed but with enough going on across its vast range of
facilities to keep you more than occupied. There are 18 dining options, 6 pools
and 3 adrenalin pumping waterslides. There are specific areas on board for children,
families and adults only which appeals to all types of holiday maker from all
walks of life.
The Royal Promenade is a central avenue on
board lined with bars, restaurants, shops and cafes. Look out for fabulous parade
party events during each cruise. Splashaway Bay is a new waterpark on board for
kids only while the solarium is an adult only pool space with retractable glass
roof and cantilevered whirlpools. The main pool area features a movie screen for
alternative evening entertainment from the theatre, casino and nightclub. Of particular
note is the Studio B Ice Rink for ice skating spectaculars and also converts
into a large entertainment space for dancing and laser tag. Try out the
Flowrider surfing simulator or perhaps have a putt in the dunes putting course.
